Pylons removed and cables undergrounded at East of Harry Stoke

As part of enabling works for the East of Harry Stoke New Neighbourhood, a major milestone has recently been achieved with the removal of several high voltage pylons and the undergrounding of overhead power cables across the Crest Nicholson southern site in November 2024 following a lengthy period of agreeing the programme of works with National Grid.

This infrastructure upgrade has cleared the way for the next stages of development, helping to unlock the potential of the area and enhance its visual appeal. The site previously contained a number of high voltage electricity lines, with large pylons running through a corridor that impacted the landscape and views across the surrounding area. The next step on the southern site is to work through the planning and delivery of phases 3, 4, 5 and the community phase.

By moving these power lines underground, the project team has improved the visual character of the site and its setting, while also making space for new homes, open spaces, and community infrastructure. The removal of the pylons represents an important step forward in transforming the East of Harry Stoke area into an attractive place to live, while supporting the delivery of much-needed housing and long-term improvements for the local environment.
