East of Harry Stoke community update – Spring 2025

Funding secured for summer community event!

I’m pleased to share that I’ve secured £10,000 in funding for a community celebration event featuring food, culture, and music – planned for late July/early August 2025.

This will be a co-designed effort with local community organisations. If you’d like to get involved, please do get in touch!

New Brooklands Park Community Centre update

We’re excited to share that John Perkins Construction is on course to complete building construction of the new Brooklands Park Community Centre by the end of July 2025.

The centre will include:

  • A lobby and café
  • Kitchen & WC facilities
  • Office and meeting rooms
  • A spacious community hall

Expected completion: End of July 2025

While there may be some disruption, John Perkins is committed to keeping residents informed and minimising impact throughout the build.

Community Eid celebration

Members of the community came together for a wonderful Community Eid Celebration on 5th April, enjoying delicious food, children’s activities, and of course, the glorious weather! ☀️

It was a lovely afternoon full of smiles and new friendships. The event was organised by South Gloucestershire Council and Julian House, and I was delighted to help facilitate it.

Local grants

Grants from South Gloucestershire Council:

The fund offers two types of grants: Small sparks grants (£100 to £500) and Stronger together grants (£1,000 to £10,000).

Grants aim to support community-led initiatives with an asset-based community development approach in South Gloucestershire.

The grants can be used to fully fund or contribute to community projects, events or activities. These can be new initiatives or existing ones.

Information on all allocated grants are published on the open data webpage.

Who can apply

There is information below on who can apply for the 2 different grants.

Small sparks grant

You can apply for a small sparks grant if you are a small local group or organisation such as:

  • a community interest organisation or community interest company
  • an informal group with a minimum of 4 people involved

Applications for small sparks grants can be made at any time.

Stronger together grant

You can apply for a stronger together grant if your organisation is one of the following:

  • voluntary or community group
  • charitable or social enterprise organisation

You will need to apply for the stronger together grant by 9 May 2025.
